So So Trouble

Bow Wow dissed Jermaine Dupri on Twitter by denying his claims of creating BET’s, 106 & Park, once hosted by AJ and Free in the 2000s and later by Bow Wow from 2012 until its cancellation in 2014.

Bow Wow disputed claims made by Jermaine Dupri on The Goats & Underdogs podcast on creating BET’s 106 & Park.

The “Let Me Hold You” artist didn’t add creating 106 & Park as part of his music legacy instead, he credited BET’s former president of programming, Stephen Hill, as one of the creators alongside Rick Grimes and others at the network.

“All I did was capitalized off what they created and made it mine. I would know, I am Mr. 106. I would never take away from someone’s creativity,” Bow Wow said of his experience with the show. The Atlanta-bred rapper went on to host the show from 2012 until the end of the show’s tenure in 2014.

Meanwhile, So So Def artist Da Brat defended  her longtime friend and label boss Dupri in a lengthy statement in response to Bow Wow on Instagram:

“Bow what I can’t let you do is discredit my brother JD who you called your dad for so many years because that’s pretty much the roll [sic]  you gave him and instead of saying hell no, he rocked with it.”

“Yeah our memories on how 106 & Park was created differ greatly,” Hill chimed in and refuted the record producer’s claims. “Now no one challenges that Bow Wow helped launch 106 & Park to great heights, this is for sure but ‘Created by me,’ might be a bit of an overstep for you my man. Love you always.”

Bow Wow Says Jermaine Dupri Didn’t Make Him. That’s Not What He Said In 2018

In March, Bow Wow was asked what he would change in his career if he could do it all over again. The retired rapper replied, “Stayed with Snoop and never signed to nobody else.” His response undermined the man who made him and whom he once called, “a father,” Jermaine Dupri.

Originally named Kid Gangsta, Shad Moss met Snoop Dogg in Ohio at a concert stop and was invited on stage to perform at the age of six. The mini gangsta rapper would then appear on The Arsenio Hall Show in 1993 under the new moniker, Lil Bow Wow.

Shortly afterward, Bow Wow could be heard in the Class Room Intro skit on Snoop Dogg’s debut album, Doggystyle.

Fast forward several decades and Bow Wow has recently announced he is retiring from rap after a savage 2-day attack by trolls on social media back in January who mocked his musical legacy with Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def Records. At that time, a tweep asked the rapper, “Do you have any regrets [in] the music business? If you could have done it all again, what would you change?” To which he former child star said, “Just been an actor and never touched music,” indicating that he wishes he had never been a rapper.

For his last project before retirement, Bow Wow signed a deal with Snoop Dogg’s newly reacquired label Death Row Records which will focus on NFTs. He said that he wanted to end his career with the man he started with… Snoop Dogg.

Shad complained that Jermaine Dupri didn’t develop his artistry and undermined the producer/record executive’s role in his career, saying “He ain’t make me” and that they had “no chemistry” working together.

This Is Not How Bow Wow Felt Three Years Ago

Shad’s recent statement is a complete about-face from what he said in 2018, calling Jermaine Dupri his “real father.” He even said Dupri cared for his personal well-being, buying him clothing and teaching him “everything.”

“My pops wasn’t even around. Then after that I was in my LA with Snoop and them. And came back home, still didn’t see my pops. Then Jermaine called.  Once Jermaine called, Jermaine became my real father. Now, if you want to keep it a buck, that’s who I call pops…That’s who took me shopping. That’s who made me look fresh in school. It was Jermaine who taught me everything.”

Megan Thee Stallion x Conway Are Unhappy

The “Take Ya Home rapper’s comments come at a time when other artists are questioning the labels that started their careers. Artists including Megan Thee Stallion and Griselda have recently spoken out against their labels on Twitter.

Megan Thee Stallion has clapped back with a heavy hand against her record label’s claims that they’re not paying her because she owes them music. Megan said they’re drug addicts, money hungry, and are scapegoating her when the real issue is with Houston music icon, J. Prince.

Conway appeared on the Bootleg Kev podcast to announce that he is leaving rap group Griselda and going solo. Conway has no beef and still supports his former group members, but he said it is time for a bigger bag.
