[With his new Genuine Article album now available, seasoned hip-hop veteran Black Rob talks to SOHH about the return of New York in the music spotlight and reveals how he has managed to stay so hungry after 20 years in the game.]

New York rap is back on the rise.

It never really left; it was just overlooked for a brief period. You have dudes out here delivering raw lyrics, i.e. Fred The Godson, Nino-Man, Chris Rivers, Bishop Neru, A$AP Mob.

If I have the opportunity to kick it with them I would. I don’t really see to many people as much as I may like though. I wish them all the best. I am sure they have cats that may be a mentor to them though. Just listen to their flow, and that will tell you.

[My hunger comes from] the love and passion for the game. Just like a boxer, it’s hard for them to put their gloves up, well it’s hard for me to put this mic up.

It’s something that I’m meant to do. I also feel like I still have a lot left to give the fans. When it’s time for me to give it up, then I’ll be behind scenes helping out my artist perfect their craft.

I’ll coach them from the sideline.
