Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is out here proving the numbers never lie. The must-see movie of the year has already made well over $150 million after only 72 hours in theaters nationwide.

According to reports, the new superhero flick has pumped out nearly $200 million since coming out Thursday night.

The epic box-office debut of “Black Panther,” the first Marvel superhero movie with an African-American in the title role, will force Hollywood to reassess the work it gives black actors and filmmakers and lead to better roles for minorities and women. The movie from Walt Disney Co.’s superhero factory opened with estimated weekend sales of $192 million, ComScore Inc. said Sunday in an email, setting a record for a February opening and likely becoming the biggest movie ever starring a largely black cast. Analysts were forecasting about as much as $185 million for Friday through Sunday. (Fortune)

Some publications estimate Black Panther will make $218 million by tomorrow night and easily bank the money it cost to create the film.

That number means that “Black Panther,” starring Chadwick Boseman and directed by Ryan Coogler, has doubled its original tracking in less than a month. The film, which carries an estimated $200 million production cost, had been tracking to bring in between an impressive $100 and $120 million when first estimates emerged on Jan. 25. Since then, “Black Panther” has become a must-see movie for many moviegoers, underlined when Thursday previews brought in $25.2 million, the largest Thursday night preview gross for a February opener and the second-largest preview gross for a Marvel film. Additional publications believe the Chadwick Boseman movie could make even more during this holiday weekend.

Disney is reporting Sunday estimates of $192M over three days for Black Panther and $218M over four. However, Black Panther domination is far from over. Industry estimates believe it’s significantly higher at $195.3M three-day for Marvel’s Black Panther and a $225.7M four-day, and that’s because hourlies are flying off the grid, with some analysts’ four-day projections at $230M. This week, hip-hop stars Lil Yachty and Offset teamed up for a special Black Panther screening.

The rappers hit up Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre Saturday, where “This is Us” writer Jas Waters set up a fully-funded screening for 500 foster and at-risk children. She says Yachty and Offset surprised the kids … and also bought out the rest of the theater! Celebrities around the country have been helping thousands of disadvantaged and minority children see “Black Panther” for free per the challenge. As we reported … Serena Williams did it for a group of young black girls Thursday in San Fran. (TMZ)
