Marvel Studios recently dropped the official trailer for the highly-anticipated Black Panther sequel.
Marvel celebrates the release of Black Panther 2 with a trailer that mourns the loss of King T’Challa, played by the late Chadwick Boseman, who passed away after battling cancer in 2020.
Characters acknowledge the loss of their king by wearing all-white ensembles and traditional funeral attire.
The trailer is action-packed and introduces the “Feather Serpent God.”
Furthermore, the film also features intersections of the modern and advanced technological worlds, along with elements of fire and water in a battle for the surface world.
The first Black Panther film grossed $23.2M in its first week overseas, before reaching the US market.
Meanwhile, rapper Quest Love boasted that the film is “THE BEST FILM IN THE HISTORY OF MOVIE MAKING.”
Black Panther 2 will premiere in theaters on November 11.
“Black Panther 2” Teaser Showcases A Nation In Mourning
Marvel Studios had previously released a teaser of the movie at Hall H during the San Diego Comic-Con weekend in July.
There wasn’t a dry eye on stage as the cast and director premiered the teaser.
Set to a stirring cover of Bob Marley and the Wailers’ 1974 hit “No Woman, No Cry” by Nigerian songstress Tems with a sample of Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright,” we are reintroduced to the prosperous, colorful nation of Wakanda.
As much celebration and dancing are shown to honor the late king, there are also many moments of grief. Letitia Wright (Shuri) bursts into tears looking onward while Angela Bassett (Ramonda) stoically looks toward the waves.
The teaser also provides the first look at Tenoch Huerta as Namor the Submariner, the ruler of Atlantis.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Marvel’s president, Kevin Feige stated:
“It [Wakanda Forever] is a tribute to what he did and what Chad brought not just to us, but to the world.”
Chadwick Honored by Alma Mater
Chadwick Boseman’s legacy, even in death, continues to impact generations to come as his alma mater, Howard University, partnered with the streaming giant Netflix to provide a $5.4 million scholarship in his name.
The Chadwick A. Boseman Memorial Scholarship will provide incoming students in the newly reestablished College of Fine Arts with a four-year scholarship to cover the full cost of university tuition.
