I’m sitting here listening to Biggie Duets. It’s not bad, except for the Julez/Jim Jones/BIG collabo to listen to while I’m working flipping these fries, spitting in ya’ll milkshakes. But anyway, there is this one track Get Your Grind On featuring Big Pun and Fat Joe which bought something to my memory…
What is the hype with Big Pun?
I’m sorry. I don’t buy into Big Pun being one of the greatest rappers of all time like some of his fans do.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Pun, but I don’t love Pun. Over the years, I’ve met people who say Big Pun is this great rapper, so when I ask them to spit something he did that made you a fan, without fail they always quote ‘Dead in the middle of Little Italy little did we know that we riddled some middleman who didn’t do diddily’. Is this the best rhyme that he has?
My favorite rapper of all time is Big Daddy Kane. If someone was to ask me why I like Kane, I’m able to quote whole verses from RAW, Ain’t No Half Stepping, Set It Off, Long Live The Kane, Wrath Of Kane, Come On Down, On The Bugged Tip, Burn Hollywood Burn…But that’s just me.
I think Big Pun fans are doing Big Pun a dis-service. If this is supposed to be your favorite rapper, tell more than 2 bars of a tongue twister.
Someone please school me on Big Pun! What is so great about this guy aside from him being the first Latino rapper to go platinum – which is questionable – isn’t Sen Dog (Cypress Hill) of Latino descent?
