Less than 48 hours after the near-fatal shooting of rap veteran Benzino in Massachusetts, arrested suspect Gai Scott has raised eyebrows following a court appearance.
According to reports, Zino’s nephew may have fired off his weapon in self-defense.
Gai Scott appeared in Plymouth District Court for arraignment on a charge of armed assault with intent to murder, and was held on no bail pending a dangerousness hearing Wednesday. “It’s very early in the game, but when the dust settles with respect to this case, it’s going to be abundantly clear that Mr. Scott, a licensed gun owner, was acting in self-defense and in defense of his family,” said Jon Ciraulo, Gai Scott’s attorney, following the arraignment. Gai Scott looked nonplussed and nodded as a judge gave him instructions during a brief court appearance. (Boston Herald)
Following the shooting, Zino revealed had initially tried to avoid attending his mother’s funeral.
Scott, a rapper and reality television personality, said he was driving south on Route 3 to meet a friend in Plymouth when he happened upon his mother’s procession. “I looked over, there was a car, and all I saw was a gun shooting at me,” Scott said in a phone interview from his hospital bed. The assailant, he said, fired seven or eight shots. “I was trying to duck and dodge, drive around it, maneuver the car. … I was bleeding a lot. I was driving with my thumb in my shoulder to try to stop the bleeding.” (Boston)
Over the weekend, the former Source co-owner updated fans on his status via Instagram.
“Feel much better, GOD IS REAL @luvheraltheaheart is my SOULMATE……. MY MOTHER TOUCHED ME, IM CERTAIN.,” Zino wrote March 30. (Benzino’s Instagram)
