Beastie Boys’ Mike D recently shared his thoughts on the war of words between Young Money’s Drake and Meek Mill.
In Mike’s opinion, Drizzy had the upper hand in the feud thanks to diss songs like “Back To Back” blowing up as hit singles.
“I like Drake! When was the last time someone made a diss record that was like, a top ten pop record? I have a lot of love for Drake coming out with a diss record – ‘Hit ’em with the prenup’? … He hit hard, and he didn’t tread lightly – ‘Is this a world tour, or is this your girl’s tour?'” (“I Am Rapaport Podcast”)
Earlier this month, rap star 50 Cent said Meek’s decision to stay mum amid Drake’s “Charged Up” and “Back To Back” diss songs hurt him.
“Even when you play chess on the clock you have to think faster, you have to make moves. You can’t sit and just look at the board – this is really interesting, I saw an artist that I knew was a talented rap artist, poke fun at another artist, and then when the guy lashed back at him, he wasn’t ready. [How did Meek get it so wrong?] I don’t know. I don’t think he saw that [‘Back To Back’ diss] coming at all. [laughs] It didn’t go right. It just didn’t go right for him. It would have been better if he just responded. No response is worse. I don’t think he anticipated it going that way.” (“Tim Westwood”)

Last month, Maybach Music Group’s Wale spoke on Meek and Drake’s feud.
“I honestly think like he brought a pencil to a gun fight,” Wale said referring to Meek Mill. “He ain’t bring a knife. He brought a pen to a piece of paper. He tried to paper cut him to death. You can’t compete with somebody that has that types of relationship. I’m telling every one who thought Meek lost just off the strength of losing, it doesn’t matter what he made, he could have wrote ‘Ether 3.0,’ the opinions of the people would have been that of the boy from Canada waxed him.
