President Obama broke the big news during a White House press conference Thursday (September 25).

“Through it all he’s shown a deep and abiding fidelity to one of our cherished ideals as a people and that is equal justice under the law,” Obama said. Speaking in the East Room of the White House, the president praised Holder for doing a “superb job,” ticking off his impressive work to root out corruption and fight violent crime, lower the incarceration rate and protect civil rights. “It’s a pretty good track record,” Obama said. Holder made huge improvements and did all this during his near six-year tenure…

Holder made a name for himself after a near six-year run as attorney general.

Under Holder’s leadership, the Justice Department saw “historic gains in the areas of criminal justice reform and civil rights enforcement,” particularly on the issues of gay rights, sentencing reform and voting rights, and in the coming weeks Holder is expected to impose new curbs on racial profiling in law enforcement, a department official told ABC News. Brooklyn music mogul Jay-Z came to Obama’s defense and said critics should fully consider his position before hating on the head of state in 2011.

“I still think he is the best man for the job,” Jay said in an interview. “Yes, I think he got a raw deal and a bad economy. You wouldn’t be given anything you can’t handle so he must be really special, because he has a lot of work to do!” (E! Online)

In August 2011, Jay named President Obama the second coolest person in the world next to him.

“The president is like the second coolest person in the world,” Jay said in an interview with Angie Martinez on August 1st, jokingly naming himself the first. “[Next to?] I mean, come on. Don’t make me say it, Ang. [laughs] Don’t make me say it Angie. [Does he react?] Yeah. Yeah, he’s very humble. Yes. It’s weird. I love it. [Do I react to him?] Definitely. [He’s the only one I react to,] off top [of my head.] 100 percent…Who you are puts a lot of pressure on regular relationships because it’s not a regular relationship. People begin to see you differently.” (Hot 97)
