On Tuesday, Obama relied on his Twitter page to pay respect to Singleton.

Immediately following his death, Singleton protégé Taraji P. Henson reflected on their relationship.

A few days ago, Henson and her Baby Boy co-star Tyrese visited Singleton at the hospital.

Since the news went viral, the biggest names in rap came forward to pay homage to Singleton’s legacy.

On Monday, John died at 51 leaving a strong, positive mark on Hollywood as an African American game-changer.

John Singleton, writer-director of “Boyz n the Hood” and industry pioneer, who was the first African American to earn an Oscar nomination for best director, has died. His family issued a statement, saying: “We are sad to relay that John Singleton has died. John passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends. We want to thank the amazing doctors at Cedars-Sinai Hospital for their expert care and kindness and we again want thank all of John’s fans, friends and colleagues for all of the love and support they showed him during this difficult time.” — The Singleton Family. According to a TMZ report, Singleton’s family decided to tak him off life support days after going into a coma.
