R&B singer August Alsina has stepped forward to provide some clarity in his televised American Music Awards performance. The seasoned crooner explained what technical complications he experienced.

Alsina jumped on Instagram early Monday (November 20) and said a microphone issue prevented him from singing.

August performed alongside Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross and Future for their “Do You Mind” televised set.

Although Chris Brown couldn’t make it, August handled hook duties. “Girl, we been right here, thinkin’ ’bout it all night,” he sang. “Baby you should be up in my bed / Do you mind?” After the male MCs walked down staircases to spit their verses, Nicki Minaj returned to the AMA stage for the song’s finale. Dressed in all black, she commanded attention: “When you see a bad bitch in front of you…Assume the position.” Earlier in the evening, she joined Ariana Grande for their “Side to Side” collaboration.
