New York singer Ashanti is still humble in 2018. The crooner has come forward to reflect on dropping her self-titled debut album over 15 years ago.

Ashanti went to Instagram this week to speak on how much of an impact her 2002 album has had on the music biz.

Recently, Ashanti talked about how close she came to securing rap icon JAY-Z for a “Foolish” remix.

“JAY was supposed to be on ‘Foolish.’ That’s crazy. This is what happened. Obviously I wrote the verses. Irv made the call to JAY…He played it for JAY, JAY loved the record. He was on his way to the studio. Then Irv said, ‘You know what? Nah. We’re gonna do something different because it’s the typical R&B move. You’re gonna carry the whole record on your own.” (“The Breakfast Club”)

Last fall, Ashanti teased fans about music brewing with hip-hop artists Tory Lanez and Swae Lee.

In October, Ashanti linked up with Bad Boy’s Diddy and French Montana.
