Reason 3: Strong Female Leads
My third reason is because it’s a film with strong females in the leads. It’s women in charge. They have the same goal to discover and destroy something which is threatening life on Earth. There are no snowflakes. These are women making decisions in very difficult circumstances. They come from a place where they’ve been on a little bit of a path of self destruction and they have nothing to lose. By going in there they have one goal which is to discover. They want to know what’s behind the shimmer. The women were all beautiful women but they weren’t portrayed as a sex object way. They were shown as strong girls. I loved that. I thought it was totally refreshing seeing all of those ladies together. It was powerful. They were leading it and that’s rare in movies with women leading the adventure they’re going on. They were in charge of their destination and their decisions.
