Atlanta producer Mike Will Made It recently revealed how close estranged OutKast member Andre 3000 came to making a full-fledged music comeback on Juicy J's "Bandz A Make Her Dance" anthem.
Mike admitted a phone conversation he had with Stacks revealed he was not fully confident in his music.
“He said ‘I’m a fan of your music, I’ve been listening to your music and ‘Bandz A Make Her Dance’ was my favorite song. I wanted to get on the remix but I wasn’t feeling my verses.” Naturally, Mike Will still wanted to hear the intended verses for his and Juicy J’s strip club anthem, noting, “They couldn’t have been wack.” “We had a good convo and then we got in the studio and we worked…well, we just vibed,” he continued. “He played me some stuff, I played him some stuff and he just gave me a lot of game, ’cause he paved the way for us, for everybody out of Atlanta.” (MTV)
Earlier in the summer, Goodie Mob’s Cee Lo said Three Stacks may be battling self-asserted fears and a level of expectation too unrealistic to reach.
“He just said he had a severe case of stage fright and just kind of been away from the game and didn’t know if he could truly live up — ah, I just feel like I’m talking to much personal stuff. I hope he don’t mind,” Cee Lo said of 3 Stacks when he and the rest of the Goodie Mob appeared on “RapFix Live” on Wednesday (August 7). “He just said he was bothered by this bar that had been set and maybe he wants to do something different, and he’ll always be his worse competition, his worse critic and maybe he don’t want to live up to what people think he should do,” he explained. “He’s always been exceptional and ahead of his time anyway, so anything he decides to do, next year or the year after that, we’ll still be catching with what’s on his mind.” (MTV)
Days prior, Andre 3000’s representative said his long-awaited solo LP was not yet penciled in despite previous reports.
3000, unlike is his ‘Kast mate Big Boi, has not released a solo album. Since Outkast’s 2006 soundrack album for “Idlewild,” Andre has only rapped sporadically as a featured guest on songs like Beyonce’s “Party” and Drake’s “The Real Her.” But not so fast, 3K fans. True as Stephen G. Hill‘s ATLien encounter may be, nothing’s set in stone. Billboard reached out to Andre’s publicist, who says nothing is for certain on the album front. “Regarding reports of a specific plan to release an album in early 2014,” the rep says, “There is no official confirmation on that report.” That statement doesn’t completely nix the potential of an Andre 3000 album in 2014. It just means it’s not locked in. (Billboard)
In early 2012, Andre explained his disinterest in rushing out a reunion OutKast LP.
“There’s been a lot of talk on the Internet about an OutKast album and I have to say that as of now, there are no plans for another OutKast album. There’s a lot of music on the horizon. I’ve been living off the excitement of new artists. I’ve been privileged to have these new artists kind of reach out and grab back and say, “Hey, Andre, we want you on this song.” So I’ve been taking those calls and for the last two years, I’ve been doing collaborations. So these new artists have kind of been keeping me alive. I’ve just really been feeding off of that and this year I think I’m planning to do a solo project. I don’t know when it will come out, but hopefully it’ll come out this year. As far as OutKast, I really don’t know if or when that will happen.” (GQ)
