OutKast’s Andre 3000 recently talked about what music he has in steady rotation and dished on reuniting with former girlfriend Erykah Badu for a song.

Three Stacks revealed his love is in jazz and co-signed hip-hop star Kid Cudi’s new Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven album.

“I always listen to a lot of jazz, a lot of Thelonious Monk. The new Kid Cudi album [Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven] is awesome to me. That’s kind of like the most recent thing that I think is really great. But other than that I’ve kind of just been working in the studio and listening to what I’m doing.” (Billboard)

Andre also discussed hooking back up with Erkyah Badu for their “Hello” collaboration.

“Our son Seven and I were trying to figure out songs that could help her—songs that were related to the subject of the mixtape: phones. We came across [The Isley Brothers’ 1974 cover of Todd Rundgren’s] ‘Hello, It’s Me.’ Ron Isley repeats the phrase ‘hello, hello’ as if he was answering the phone. I told Erykah, ‘You should make this into a new song and get somebody to rap on it.’ She was like, ‘Well, you should rap on it!’ I’m happy it happened. It was a great reunion, because I don’t think people have heard a song from us in ages.” (Billboard)

The former couple’s unexpected audio gem premiered online in late November.

A cut off of Badu’s new mixtape But You Cain’t Use My Phone, “Hello” follows the theme of telephones. Putting her own spin on The Isley Brothers’ “Hello It’s Me,” Badu croons, “Hello, it’s me, it’s me, baby / I thought about us for a long, long time / Maybe I think too much but something’s wrong” (Entertainment Weekly)

Last year, OutKast’s Big Boi talked about missing out on a Super Bowl performance because of Three Stacks.

“We were supposed to perform at the Super Bowl. We had two songs, ‘The Way You Move’ and ‘Hey Ya!’ and we didn’t, Dre didn’t want to split the songs up. He didn’t want to cut the songs. He wanted to perform them so they were like, ‘Y’all can’t do it.’ He wanted to perform both songs in full and they didn’t give us enough time to do it so we passed. [How much was I in his ear to do it?] A lot. To this day, his son is like, ‘Dad, you should have performed at the Super Bowl.’ [laughs] We look at it now and laugh but hopefully they’ll invite us back. He’s like my brother. We grew up together. I slept on his bedroom floor when we were in high school when I moved to Atlanta. It’s bigger than music with us.” (“The Dan Le Batard”)
