In an interview unearthed days after her death, late Grammy-winning singer Amy Winehouse reveals her admiration toward hip-hop by naming the rappers she would've like to have collaborated with.
Sticking to the New York region, Winehouse’s top picks included Nas and Rah Digga.
“There’s so many people I’d love to work with: Nas, Mos Def. I’d love to work with Busta Rhymes, I’d love to work with Rah Digga … I love them,” she said in 2007. “I learned a lot of stuff about how to write songs from people like that. I just really like them, and if they like my stuff, cool. … If they want to do a track, I’d love to.” (MTV)
Following her death a few days ago, Jay-Z paid homage to the late singer and named his favorite Winehouse tune.
“Rest in Peace AMY. “Tears Dry On Their Own” “My favorite song by this amazing talent.,” Jay wrote on his Life + Times blog with a large image of Winehouse. (Life + Times)
In 2007, Jay linked with Winehouse for the remix of her hit, “Rehab”.
Originally released in November of 2006, in England, as the lead single off her new album, Back to Black, singer Amy Winehouse is quite a brave sole. Most patients who go through a rehab program wouldn’t think to broadcast their experiences to the world. Amy however decided to use the process of her addiction and recovery to create the Mark Ronson produced hit, “Rehab.” Inspired by her talent and storytelling, Jay-Z reached out to Amy to record a verse for the remix. Winehouse’s final public appearance was last Wednesday (July 20) in London.
Amy Winehouse’s last public appearance came three days before her death, when she appeared on stage with Dionne Bromfield at the iTunes Festival. In a surprise appearance at the Roundhouse, Camden, on Wednesday evening, Winehouse joined her god-daughter onstage for a rendition of ‘Mama Said’. Winehouse danced on stage and urged the audience to buy Bromfield’s album before leaving. (Telegraph UK)
