According to Offishall, he noticed Drizzy’s star ability before the ink over at Young Money dried up back in 2009.

Akon sure has an ear for top-notch talent; just ask T-Pain and Lady Gaga. Still, even the best music execs miss out from time to time, and on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live,” Kon’s buddy Kardinal Offishall revealed the “Locked Up” singer’s most notable miss. “The biggest one that he passed on, I told him about Drake early,” Kardi revealed. “I said, ‘Kon, this kid is a T.V. star… and this kid is crazy.'” Kardinal, like Drizzy, hails from Toronto, but was able to establish himself as a notable rap talent years before Drake broke out with 2009’s So Far Gone. “I had met him years before he started with his first mixtape,” Offishall said. “The thing that’s dope about Drake is that I remember, like he was just hungry because he wanted to make that transition from the acting to the rapping.” (MTV)

In June 2009, Drake revealed his partnership with Lil Wayne‘s Young Money team.

“I actually signed directly to my managers Cortez Bryant and Gee Roberson,” Drake explained in an interview. “And we signed a joint venture with Young Money which is Lil Wayne’s company. The courting was nice, I had some great dinners in hotels, I got some nice things [during the bidding war.] I think the best part about it is that we’ve done this thing in the industry where it’s been so organic to do it with the people that I’m doing it with. It’s kinda like we’re doing it by ourselves. It’s distributed through Universal.” (Alexa Chung)

Prior to the mega announcement, online reports hinted at Drake signing to Universal.

According to several sources on the left coast, Toronto native, and Hip-Hop’s second coming, Drake, who’s been used as tug toy between Atlantic Records, Universal Records, Interscope Records and Def Jam Records has allegedly inked a deal with Universal Records. From my understanding, Drake was set to announce his new found Hip-Hop residence some time soon, but I guess word got out a little premature and landed directly in my lap. Now, the lil birdie who threw me this tidbit got the information straight from the label, so you can kill the LowKey’s making up ish? commentary – ASAP. And if this doesn’t serve true, well someone up at Universal Records has a lot of explaining to do. (BET)

Since 2010, Drizzy’s reported net worth is around $25 million.

Forbes Hip Hop Cash Kings earnings: 2010: $10m, 2011: $11m, Total: $21 million Canadian recording artist and actor, Aubrey “Drake” Graham, has an estimated net worth of $25 million. Drake was initially known for his role as Jimmy Brooks on Degrassi: The Next Generation, he stepped out as a rapper and singer with pop appeal. (Celebrity Net Worth)
