Hip-hop veteran Akon is weighed-in on the drama currently surrounding Nelly. The rapper/singer has stepped forward to discuss the St. Louis native’s headline-generating situation.

In a new interview, Akon said he could not imagine Nelly raping an unnamed female tour bus passenger.

“I’m completely confused,” Akon said when told about Nelly’s bust. “Not the Nelly I know [is capable of that.] He’s an amazing person. I just know how scary these types of situations can be. But I’m almost 100 percent positive he’s innocent. I don’t see Nelly forcing no one, it just doesn’t make sense. A lot of times it’s always a member of the entourage, someone who comes on, as a friend of an entourage, because you’re the name, often times you get the truth out there, with Nelly being captured for something like that, the truth normally will come out on whoever it might have been.” (TMZ)

Yesterday, Nelly came forward to break his silence on the alleged incident.

Earlier the same day, a report emerged about Nelly landing in handcuffs over a sexual allegation.

Law enforcement sources tell us, a woman claims she was raped on the rapper’s tour bus — which was parked in a Walmart lot in Washington — where he’s been performing. Nelly is on a tour with Florida Georgia Line and they are set to perform Saturday night in Ridgefield, Washington. We’re told the alleged rape occurred Saturday morning at 3:48 AM. We’re told she specifically said Nelly is the one who raped her. (TMZ)

The hip-hop veteran spent a little time with cops before getting released.

After officers investigated the incident, Nelly was taken into custody and booked at the SCORE jail facility. Auburn police confirmed he was released on Saturday. Nelly is currently on the Smooth Stadium Tour with Florida Georgia Line and the Backstreet Boys. He is scheduled to perform in Ridgefield, Washington, on Saturday night. (King 5)
