The Neptunes' Pharrell Williams is not slowing down after the new release of his G I R L solo album and is reportedly preparing to launch a fragrance donning the same name later this year.
According to reports, the new scent will land in retail outlets this upcoming fall.
There’s a new G I R L in Pharrell Williams’ life. Following the release of his album, the “Happy” singer is set to debut his first fragrance this fall. Pharrell has partnered with Japanese fashion brand Comme des Garçons for G I R L, a unisex scent named after his latest project. “I am so honored to be working with Comme des Garçons and cherish the education that I’ve experienced in this collaboration,” Pharrell told WWD. The new G I R L album debuted on the sales chart this week.
Debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 is Pharrell Williams’ second album, “G I R L.” The singer-rapper-producer’s new set sold a larger-than-expected 112,000 in its first week. The album’s lead single, the inescapable “Happy,” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 three weeks ago. One day before the release of “G I R L” on Monday, March 3, Williams performed “Happy” on the Academy Awards, where it was nominated for best original song. While the cut didn’t win the trophy for Williams (“Let It Go” from “Frozen” took the honor), the global exposure certainly didn’t hurt him. (Billboard)
Earlier this month, NBA champion LeBron James bigged up P’s new solo album and even named “Happy” his family’s favorite tune.
“S/O to my homie @pharrell on his latest LP “Girl”!! Keep killing all them charts fam. Num.1 everywhere and ofcourse “Happy” is my kids and I favorite song in a long time! Well it’s everyone’s favorite, just makes u feel good about yourself! #SkateBoardP #Grammys #Oscars #StriveForGreatness,” James wrote March 3. (LeBron James’ Instagram)
In February, Pharrell delved into what inspired his LP’s unique title.
“It’s called G I R L, it’s all capital letters and two spaces between each letter on purpose. … The reason why I named it G I R L in capital letters is because when you look at it, it looks a little weird and the reason why it does is because society is a little unbalanced. And I just thought like, man, if I’m gonna make an album, I need to make an album that says everything that I’ve ever wanted to say, like dreamt of.” (Backstage At The BRITs)
