When asked about the Empire State’s rap scene, Ferg did not hold back on dishing his thoughts.

Do you think its intrinsically more important for New York rappers to put on a good show? Nah, because there’s a lot of New York rappers who are lazy. For sure. Talking about New York, A$AP Mob copped a bit of flak there when you were first coming up. What’s the attitude now? Is it any better? Is the New York scene any more accepting of you guys now that you’ve taken such a lead, so to speak? Um, I don’t really know. Honestly. Because there are people who travel from all across the world to come to New York for our shows. Whether the New Yorkers themselves embrace us like that, I’m not really sure. (The Vine)

The Fergster also revealed what big plans he has on deck for the rest of this year.

So what are the plans for the rest of 2014? I’m just gonna put out more records, we’re gonna put out this A$AP Mob album. I’m gonna put out another album and then another album after that. And then I’m gonna put out a mixtape, and then I’m gonna put out another ten songs, and then I’m gonna put out a hundred more songs and a thousand songs after that (laughs). (The Vine)

Coincidentally, Brooklyn rapper Papoose recently declared himself the king of New York hip-hop.

Nobody is better than me — Jay-Z, nobody,” said Shamele Mackie, better known by the stage name Papoose. “None are more lyrically inclined than me. None of them. I’m definitely the king of New York. I am the greatest out of New York.” … “When I look in the mirror, I don’t see Jay Z — I see Papoose,” said the musician, who’s married to Remy Ma, a Grammy-nominated rapper serving time for a 2007 shooting. “More power to him, but he’s not better than me.” (NY Daily News)

In 2011, the Big Apple emcee crowned himself the Big Apple’s king.

“The reason I chose that title is because I am the king of New York,” the Brooklyn MC said with confidence to Mixtape Daily. “It feels good to be the king of New York so I just wanted to celebrate myself being the king of New York, so I figured I’d make it a self-titled mixtape…It’s just basically breaking down some of the reasons of why I’m the king of New York. The reaction was both-sided, but it was a little bit more to the good side. A lot of my supporters, a lot of my fans reached out. And a lot of my haters reached out who disagree that I’m the king and I just let them know that I intend on proving it.” (MTV)
