[With his new “Drunk Wedding” movie at select theaters and available for digital download, Hollywood director Nick Weiss talks to SOHH about the hit-and-miss bromance genre and why girls need laughs just as much as guys.]

I love stuff that’s about friends and can get wild and crazy. I think those two are important. I think if you go for wild and crazy without real relationships, it has kind of an empty feeling.

I think it’s funnier, the big comedy scenes are funnier, when you think it’s happening to real people. So a lot of bromance movies and things, it’s about friendship really.

My new “Drunk Wedding” isn’t just about guys, it’s about guys and girls who are all friends from college. It doesn’t always have to be about dudes. It can be both genders but it’s about making a movie that can focus on friendship. There’s some movies that indicate friendships where they’re presented as friends but when you watch it, you don’t really get that feeling that they’re friends.

You don’t have that feeling. You just feel like you’re thrown into a situation where crazy things happen. I like mixing those real human connections with crazy comedic situations.

The thing that’s being talked about in Hollywood is how important it is to make sure women are being paid attention to in movies. You just saw “Pitch Perfect 2” open up and it had a huge opening and I feel like you can try to make a movie that’s really for everybody.

It’s not about trying to portray women as just the wife or the girlfriend. I think that’s important. It can bring in more people to feel the connection and the story.
