[After recently treating rap fans to his inspirational “365 Hip-Hop: Daily Motivational Quotes” book, author Carl Michel tells SOHH how he put together the must-read release.]
I put my blood, sweat and tears into this book. It’s like when a rapper puts out their first album and they put everything they got into it.
This is what I had to do for the book.
This is my Illmatic. This is my Reasonable Doubt. This is my Ready 2 Die. This is my baby.
Ironically it took me 9 months to birth my baby. I spent 9 months working on the content.
I chose the biggest artists on the planet and I found the positive things they said. There were about 730 quotes that I found, researched and created.
The music, the social media and the interviews these artists had done were all included and I narrowed it down to the top 365.
From that 365, I added motivational messages to it and affirmations. That process took me about 9 months and then editing took me another 9 months.
So it was about a year and a half, almost 2 years I worked on this project.
It all started as a daily text message. I would send my friends a couple text messages to motivate them from quotes that I had saw and they started gravitating to them.
Now thousands of people every day are gravitating toward my quotes. They’ve taken these quotes like they take vitamins.
I simply incorporated hip-hop into them and the youth is learning more from this than what they’re learning in school.
