Veteran hip-hop crews M.O.P. and Onyx have reportedly teamed up to potentially put together a new joint album produced by Snowgoons with help from interested fans.

A face-off album with both groups will come together if they are able to raise $30,000 with a Kickstarter project by the end of next month.

The funding is where we need your support. We hearten every Rap fan to join the band wagon and make this happen. We’re international. A project like this requires face to face meetings in order to create a unique, superb and outstanding album. We have to independently cover studio time, video production, marketing, promotion, travel, pressing, artwork as well as mixing and mastering, which is truly the hard part for an album of this caliber. The release is estimated roughly for spring 2016 to drop, via Goon MuSick and Major Independent. (Kickstarter)

Earlier this year, iconic hip-hop crew De La Soul raised over $100,000 for their Kickstarter album.

Iconic rap group De La Soul launched a Kickstarter campaign on March 30 to release a new album, and reached their $110,000 goal one day later. As of early April 4, over $300,000 has been raised, and there are still many, many days until the campaign ends on May 2. (AXS)

De La Soul rewarded Kickstarter contributors with various gifts including a dinner date.

This Kickstarter campaign also includes some pretty cool gifts, and it looks like more will continue to be added over the life of the campaign. There’s something for every De La Soul fan– including shoes, a dinner date, shopping with the guys, a Skype session, VIP passes to 10 of their shows, autographed LPs, shirts, a meet and greet, and much more. Selecting more than one awesome reward is a bit convoluted, but another option is to create a second account (or third, or fourth), and select the additional reward that way. Long live De La Soul. Earlier this year, M.O.P.’s Billy Danze spoke to SOHH about their Street Certified EP project.

“Again I think people are going to love this EP. We put our minds into, we put our hearts into it, like we always do with any other M.O.P. project and we’re happy with it. Our formula always was, if we’re happy with it, the fans are happy with it because we do it for the fans.” (SOHH)

      • Love them both as artists and had most of their albums in the 90’s etc. but sadly you are correct there. I would love to hear a collabo but honestly about 10 years ago or so it would have been A LOT better IMO.
