While the focus is on Kafani surviving the shooting, new updates on the injuries paint a potentially different future for the California emcee.

Kafani was shot 5 times, and if you don’t know that then you can read about the story by clicking on this link. After the beef with Philthy Rich escalated to an all time high, the beef resulted in a shooting on Seminary Ave in Oakland the other night. Kafani was filming a video to his diss track towards Philthy Rich in his hood and was asked by an unnamed suspect to stop. As they were packing up, the unnamed suspect opened fire on Kafani and he was rushed to the hospital by his friends to the ICU at an Oakland hospital. More information was released today about Kafani’s injuries. The shots hit him in the spine and the chest and it is a miracle that he is still holding on. The doctors have pumped as much blood into him as possible and have performed many surgeries to keep him alive. They are not sure if he will have full mobility because of the spinal injuries if he survives this tragic attack. At this point doctors expect Kafani to pull through, however the damages could change his career for good. (24 Hour Hip Hop)

Reports of the horrific weekend shooting surfaced online this week.

A rapper shot several times in East Oakland Saturday night by someone who told him to stop filming a video remained in critical condition Monday. Police confirmed that Amir Rashad, 33, who performs under the name Kafani, was the man shot at about 11:36 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Seminary Avenue and Foothill Boulevard. Police said Rashad was part of a group filming a rap video when a man approached and told them they shouldn’t be filming there. As they were in the process of leaving the man shot Rashad numerous times, authorities said. Rashad’s friends drove him to a hospital, where he underwent surgery. (Mercury News)

His last Twitter remark dates back to early Sunday (September 29) morning.

“#philthybitch on http://thizzler.com right now http://instagram.com/p/e1VzRJsw3-/,” a post reads from his Twitter page September 29. (Kafani’s Twitter)

A couple years ago, Kafani also found himself in the line of fire during a fatal shooting.

Rashad is based in Oakland, and is the founder of the group Babyface Assassins, according to his official website. In November 2011, police said Rashad was at the scene of a West Oakland shooting in which eight people were shot, including 23-month-old Hiram Lawrence Jr., who later died. A van belonging to the rapper was riddled with gunshots, police said at the time. The day of that shooting, the toddler’s father, producer Hiram Lawrence Jr., was shooting a music video with two fellow rappers that disrespected a gang from the Acorn public housing project, according to court testimony in April. The testimony was given in a preliminary hearing for Fredrick Coleman, who is one of three people accused of firing at least 40 bullets into the group of people on Nov. 28, 2011. (Mercury News)

The West Coast rapper previously spoke to SOHH about embracing the independent music game hustle.

“The independent game is pretty good, I mean, anything you do you have to work hard at it,” Kafani told SOHH. “On a major label, you have to work but not as hard. There’s a lot of money that the label is going to put up to get you out there. So when you’re independent, you have to grind much harder to do it. But the thing about it that I like [about] being on the independent side is that you have more freedom to do what you want to do. Everything you’re seeing is my creation and what I”m putting together. I want to be able to be independent and make music the way I want to do it. I was on E-1 Music for a minute and it was cool. It’s an indie label but still had us working off of a major scale so a lot of things that were going on with the project, I didn’t know about. So I like to be kind of hands on with my stuff. At the end of the day, I know what’s best for me.” (SOHH)
