Hip-hop pioneer Afrika Bambaataa has finally come forward to publicly speak out on being singled out over a sexual molestation accusation.

Bambaataa issued a full statement this week and denied any sexual wrongdoing to alleged victim Ronald Savage.

“I, Afrika Bambaataa, want to take this opportunity at the advice of my legal counsel to personally deny any and all allegations of any type of sexual molestation of anyone,” Bambaataa says in a statement to Rolling Stone. “These allegations are baseless and are a cowardly attempt to tarnish my reputation and legacy in hip-hop at this time. This negligent attack on my character will not stop me from continuing my battle and standing up against the violence in our communities, the violence in the nation and the violence worldwide.” (Rolling Stone)

This week, Savage provided more context on the alleged sexual attacks.

“I want him to know how much he damaged me growing up,” Savage said in a new interview. “I was just a child. Why did he take my innocence away? Why did he do this to me?” Bambaataa abused him at least five times, Savage says, but he did not go to the police or tell anybody else, although he says that years later, he did confide in his mother, ex-wife and several former girlfriends. A few days prior, one of Bambaataa’s attorneys spoke out on the graphic accusation.

“Recently, defamatory statements were published seeking to harm my client’s reputation so as to lower him in the estimation of the community while deterring others from associating or dealing with him. The statements show a reckless disregard for the truth, were published with knowledge of their falsity, and are being made by a lesser-known person seeking publicity. Valuable cultural resources, such as Afrika Bambaataa’s good name and time, should never be used to assist a mediocre person’s asinine quest for social media popularity and superficial gain. – Attorney Vivian K. Recently, Savage accused Afrika of molestation over 30 years ago.

“I was a kid when this happened. I wanted to be down with the in-crowd, not really understanding that what Bambaataa was doing to me was molesting me. I knew it was wrong. I had these feelings that were like, ‘Yuck.'(Shot 97)
