According to Ace, the decision to take his talent to South Beach with DJ Khaled‘s We The Best and Birdman’s Cash Money Records was largely due to meeting his contractual obligations.

“The situation was over with Def Jam. What I have with them? I had three albums with them. My situation with them was up. We chose to take the label situation to another place, to another home,” Ace explained in an interview. “It’s no knock to Def Jam, shout out to Def Jam. I will always be forever grateful to Def Jam for supporting my career and being there. I’m definitely a lot more happy with the situation I got now, in all honesty, because I’m able to do me. There’s no pressure. Nobody’s calling me, forcing an album on me or forcing this on me. It’s what’s your vision? What do you want to do? We’re willing to do what you want to do.” (“The Breakfast Club”)

Last May, Hood explained joining forces with Cash Money Records and why his profile would likely become even more enhanced around a new team.

“It’s big for me,” Hood said, referring to the new joint Cash Money/We The Best partnership. “I think the fans are going to be excited about the move. They’ve been waiting for me to take it to the next level in my career and to get the look and the exposure, being under YMCMB, it’s huge. It’s something I’ve been waiting on for a long time. People hear the starvation in my voice, they hear the hunger — it’s a good time.” (“106 & Park”)

Weeks prior, Birdman officially announced the joint venture and placed emphasis on Ace spearheading their new releases.

“I’d like to let the world know that Khaled’s brand, which is We the Best, is officially signed to YMCMB and the first act coming out that umbrella … will be Ace Hood,” Birdman said. “I always wanted to have a chance to work with Ace Hood. We wanted to do it right, set it up right. I think Ace Hood is a superstar. I love his work ethic, I think he’s a very talented young man and he gonna be a big superstar in this business and I wanted to be the one to help him become that. It was important to me.” (MTV)

Outside of the music, the Florida-bred hip-hop artist talked to SOHH about his religion.

“At the end of the day, as a human being, there’s things that I believe in and ways that I grew up,” Hood told SOHH, “I grew up with morals. At the end of the day, my mother still hits me if I haven’t gone to visit. I might be on tour and she’ll hit me saying, ‘If you’re not here, then you need to be in church.’ I always make time at the end of the day. As a man, I’m going to make time for family, for women, partying and so it’s important for me to give that time to the G-o-d. It’s why I wake up to a beautiful penthouse and cars and all this nice stuff. So I have to give it back — praying and going through different things in my life, I’ve seen a change. It’s the reason why I believe in who I believe in.” (SOHH)
