A$AP Mob's A$AP Rocky has weighed-in on rap star Kendrick Lamar's new To Pimp a Butterfly album and his emphasis on putting the spotlight on black culture.
Although he has not had a chance to fully get into the LP, Rocky co-signed the LP off its production alone.
“I didn’t really get a chance to really listen to it yet. When I listened to it I was with the fellas chilling and smoking and listening through a laptop. I like it. It was a bit jazzy as opposed to his aesthetic from the last album, which had more versatility. I kinda feel like it was one mood with this one. I really need to give it a good listen and come back to it because I skimmed through it. But the production is amazing and his lyrics is impeccable as usual. And the concept alone, being black and proud? I’m all for it.” (Billboard)

Based on weekend estimates, the LP should sell at least 300,000 copies in its first week.
Kendrick Lamar will top next week’s albums and SPS charts with the year’s second-largest debut, behind only Drake. This will be the 10th album this year to debut over 100k. By this time last year, only four albums had hit six figures. Here’s how it looks in Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) and albums as we head into the weekend:
*Kendrick Lamar (TDE/Aftermath/Interscope) 340-365k SPS (300-325k albums)
Empire ST (Twentieth Century Fox/Columbia) 80-85k SPS (60-65k albums) (HITS Daily Double)
