Despite announcing his boycott of Tuesday night’s Clippers National Anthem performance before the big news, Tank applauded Sterling’s ban.

“This is why we stand and fight! I applaud the commissioner and I look forward to the owners pushing him completely out!! #clippers #stand,” he wrote on April 29 via Instagram.

“To be heard! To be understood! For our stand to be recognized! Now we support OUR TEAM!! #weareone #clippers” (Tank’s Instagram)

Tank also addressed the ban via his Twitter page and confirmed he would not perform the National Anthem.

“I will not be singing the anthem but I am extremely happy with the results!! I will be wearing my #clippers jersey tonight!!” (Tank’s Twitter)

The NBA announced its hefty punishment against Sterling early Tuesday.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver issued sweeping sanctions against Donald Sterling on Tuesday morning in response to controversial remarks about blacks purportedly made by Sterling. Silver said the Clippers owner was banned from any association with the team for life and fined $2.5 million. Silver added that he would urge other owners to force a sale of the team. Along with pulling away from the Clippers, Tank initially said he would stay NBA-free until the controversy was handled.

Tank tells TMZ, “As an African American man and artist, I must take a stand on a matter that is so deeply personal to me.” Tank goes on, “In light of the recent disturbing and offensive allegations, in good conscience, I cannot move forward with my scheduled appearance at Tuesday’s Los Angeles Clippers game.” Tank tells us he won’t associate his brand with an owner who makes minorities unwelcome. Tank ends by saying he won’t do anything for the entire NBA until the league completes its investigation. (TMZ)
