50 Cent Isn’t Crying Over Grammys Anymore: “People [Don’t] Care About Those Establishments Anymore”

In Fif’s opinion, it means more to be around fellow artists than to go home with a Grammy award.

“I’m not sure people care about those establishments anymore,” 50 said referring to the Grammy Awards. “To not go on and actually win, and my reason for being excited about an awards show is my peers being there to acknowledge the work. If it means that we get to choose our ourselves who deserves what awards then why would I show up for them to tell me? I feel like I deserved ‘Best New Artist’ for my first album. It’s the largest debuting rap record and 13 million records sold.” (People)

Instead of holding personal grudges, rap star Rick Ross said artists should keep the music-making geared toward the fans.

“I don’t get into none of that,” Ross said about the pre-Grammy Awards controversy with which hip-hop artists were nominated. “We don’t get into feelings. We just make music for our fans and make the best music. And that’s why I recommend everybody do if you want to keep coming back like Ricky Rozay.” (Billboard)

Rap veteran Snoop Dogg jumped onto his Instagram page to call out the renowned awards ceremony this week.

Fuck the Grammys we need a hip hop show for real niggaz. n real mcs.

To make matters worse, the Grammys made history by not televising the rap category on Sunday (February 8) night.

At the 57th annual ceremony, for the first time since 1990, the year after that boycott, there was no televised rap category. That’s 25 years. A quarter century. Damn near my entire lifetime. (MTV)

New York rapper Safaree Samuels spoke to SOHH this week about his feelings on the awards show.

“I definitely am geared toward people appreciating my music and what I put out there. I don’t think an award defines you. At the end of the day, whether people know it or not, these awards have a lot to do with politics. That doesn’t define an artist to me. I might have to put my plans to go to Jamaica [this upcoming weekend] back because I don’t want to rush it. I was going to shoot a music video and I don’t want to rush it.” (SOHH)

  1. If you can’t win them, criticize them. (His only Grammy win was courtesy of Eminem and Dr. Dre)

    • yea for the worst fucking song ever and im a big fan of all 3 but that just proves how wack the Grammys are. Crack A Bottle??? C’mon now that’s just silly

  2. In his case he has a point tho. Even the biggest 50 haters agree that GRODT was a classic and should’ve won a grammy but didn’t. Right there the grammy killed gangsta rap.

    • church !!1 Tabernacle !!! somebody tell that old cute lady with the flower hat to hit it LOL !!!

    • I like 50 but I won’t say that album was a classic. People use that term too loosely. However I will agree that the grammys don’t respect hip hop or black music or culture in general. Neither does the oscars. F**k both of them!!!!!! That’s why we gotta stop letting these ceremonies determine our worth as artists, actors etc.

      • I say it was simply because u could play it from begning to end and rock to it and three years later can still do so and now 14 years later can still do so. thats what a classic album is imo. the massacre joint was igght i fucked with it but it will never get a front to back play in the whip . neither will the curtis joint even when i copped it i skipped songs off jump .. that bisd joint though i think that was a slept on joint that was border line classic material imo. if he would have dropped bisd directly after grodt #damnitman lol

        • It’s alot of albums I have that you can just put in and let it play. it’s just means it’s quality material. Doesn’t make it a classic. It’s a difference between great and classic. I loved Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2. I can play that joint then and I can play it now. I won’t call it a classic tho. Like I stated in a previous post: To me a classic is a album that people will talk about 20 years from now. People will still celebrate it. An example is Illmatic. 10 years from now people will still bring that album up when discussing hip hop excellence. The Chronic as well. Early Tribe albums. Can Get Rich really compare to the Illmatics of the world? I don’t see it. For you to say the Bisd joint was borderline classic is crazy to me. I can’t rock with that at all. lol. I can’t kill you because it’s your opinion but damn. lol. 50 puts out quality material but I can’t call it classic. That’s my opinion tho my brother.

          • lol i say borderline as far as quality wise. my nigga go listen to that joint from beinging to end that joint crank on all levels. as far as what i would put in my whip and turn up at a stop light type of music lol.. Grodt speaks to a nigga i think bisd was on same level as grodt lowkey but homies buzz was low and niggaz was on swag shit. but let that bisd had of dropped right after grodt instead of the massacre and game time holmes i bet that joint be considered a classic. massacre was subpar i only like three maybe 4 songs tops on that joint. curtis i aint even cop that joint.

          • I have the album. We not gonna agree on BISD. Even if that album dropped after Get Rich I don’t think it would of blown because it didn’t have the potential singles that Get Rich had like 6-7 songs that could of been first singles. I don’t see that with Before. I have all 50 joints. I actually thought Massacre was good. lol. Obviously it wasn’t on the level of Get Rich but to me it still had some bangers. Curtis wasn’t a bad album. I liked it. To me Animal Ambition and Before was his worst joints. Not wack joints but to me they are 3.5-4 mic albums (old source system). I’m not crazy about the beat selection on recent 50 joints. If he can choose the right beats he can still make some good songs.

          • oh man u trippin that bisd joint cranked. that strecth joint was a banger. physco was top notch work death to my enemies was tough as nails, so disrespectfull was one of the toughest diss tracks he ever dropped and it was named correctly cause slim was disrespectfull as shit on the track lol, strong enough was a tough joint, crime wave, and gangstas delight jumped, baby by me was a club banger but i aint like it but then again im not a chick or rich lol, i got swag sucked i aint like tha that one at all. i see what u saying though holmes thats why i say borderline lol.. curtis nah i aint fucks with curtis at all and massacre wont trash i just aint played it since it came out only a few songs get play from that joint. to me grodt and bisd was his thumpers. the new animal ambition joint rock niggaz is loafin on that joint but whole time that joint thump its more of a mixtape feel to it though but its a banger

          • To me it was cool. Not borderline classic. lol. I say it was a 3.5 mic album. Curtis was 3.5. Massacre was a 4. Similar to Get Rich Massacre had alot of joints that could of been singles. Overall a good album to me. Animal Ambition I give a 3 and Get Rich I give a 4.5. That’s my official rating on the 50 albums. lol.

        • That’s YOUR opinion and opinions are like assholes. You know the saying. My standards of classics are completely different. To me a classic is a album that people will talk about 20 years from now. Records from that album will still be played. Not just one record from that album. Multiple records. Illmatic is a classic. The Chronic is a classic. Criminal Minded, Reasonable Doubt, Doggystyle etc. Get Rich good album. Close but no cigar. I don’t think in 2025 people will talk about that album. I’m sure they will talk about Straight Outta Compton tho. Feel me? We’ll agree to disagree tho.

      • Best New Artist has been given to Natalie Cole, Mariah Carey, Arrested Development, Toni Braxton, Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, and John Legend. Therefore, I wouldn’t say they don’t respect black music and culture, but rather hip-hop music and its culture.

      • I doubt it considering the success he gained from that album. Why can’t a person express his opinion about the Grammys without being salty? I’m sure you agree with his point that most people don’t care about the Grammys or Emmys. I bet you can’t name last years album of the year off the top of your head.

        • He wouldn’t be crying if he won …… facts ….. and Daft Punk won last year ,that was easy to remember because that Get Lucky song played every where for almost the whole year ……. now the year before that might be that chick Adele but I’m not sure

  3. you want a wack ass grammy? take kendrick lamar, add adele fat ass on the hook singing about child abuse, with some old white man either playing the guitar or singin some country bullshit about war veterans. oh and have a gospel choir in the background. POW you got your wack ass grammy.
