G-Unit leader 50 Cent has finally talked about sharing an in-ring moment with former rap nemesis Lil Wayne after Floyd Mayweather, Jr.'s recent boxing victory and why Justin Bieber also got in on the action.
Fif said there was no bad blood between him and Weezy following Mayweather’s defeat of Miguel Cotto earlier this month.
“Floyd has a huge passion for music that people don’t know about,” 50 explained. “It’s a big part of what makes him comfortable and takes his mind off of how hard he has to work to stay being the #1 fighter in the world. With Wayne’s music momentum, he’s a part of that; he’s been a part of the playlist, so it’s cool.” After Floyd dusted off Cotto in a unanimous decision, he, Bieber, Weezy and 50 all celebrated in the ring and even posed for a few pictures. Though Fif sported his patented menacing scowl, he insists that there was no problem whatsoever. “The pictures, when I’m not paying attention, they take some really weird facial expressions of me,” he said. “I’m like, ‘What the f— was I thinking at that point?’ It’s nothing there to make me feel uncomfortable.” (MTV)
He also went on to explain how teenage sensation Justin Bieber got some in-ring spotlight.
“Justin is also a Floyd fan. They love the sport. A lot of people like it and haven’t actually made contact or received anything to make them feel like it was cool or comfortable enough for them to come,” 50 said about JB’s much-discussed ring walk. “When it actually happens and it goes down like that, it feels good. When they get a chance to see different genres, different people, everybody’s excited.” (MTV)
Recent reports suggested Mayweather wanted Biebs to come through months in advance.
According to our sources, Mayweather asked Bieber four months ago to join him in Las Vegas for the Miguel Cotto fight … and Bieber, a huge boxing fan, jumped at the opportunity. We’re told Floyd and Justin became friends after Floyd saw Justin’s movie, “Never Say Never,” and reached out to his camp. According to our sources, Floyd decided he wanted to mentor Justin and the two developed a relationship. Our sources say Mayweather tried to impart his work ethic on Justin, basically telling him he could develop the same level of “greatness” Floyd achieved … if he worked as hard as Floyd did. We’re told the two hit it off and Justin tells people he thinks Floyd is just misunderstood … and that he is a really a “hard-working and clean-cut guy.” (TMZ)
Glitz and glamour to the side, Fif talked about the boxing champion’s win last week.
“He wanted to knock him out. I mean, he could’ve outboxed him. There’s no one in the place wondering if Floyd could’ve outboxed him — he decided to stay in and mix it up, and a lot of those punches that people said ‘Ooh’ and ‘Ahh’ about during the actual fight, they weren’t landing. He was using defense. … If you look back, they kept showing the replays of Cotto’s punches landing because they saw blood on Floyd — everybody’s excited and I’m like, he’s kicking his a** the whole round and you show that in the highlights.” (Fight Hype)
