G-Unit leader 50 Cent opens up about his musical tastes and admits he wished rap nemesis Fat Joe's "Lean Back" was his own record in the new issue of XXL Magazine.
Within his cover feature, Fif reflects on today’s lack of genuine, hit records.
“When I was in the mixtape circuit, there was a lot going on. I was able to take things that I wish I made myself and do ’em over. Now it’s not a lot of sh*t out there I would do over. I’m like, Nah, that ain’t even it right there. You know what I’m saying? When Black Rob had “Whoa!,” I wish that was my record. I wish “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See,” by Busta Rhymes, was my record. F*ckin’ “Lean Back,” I wish that was mine. You see what I’m saying? And you know me and Fat Joe don’t get along. You know what I’m saying? But to the culture, when you have those moments… And I’m sure they’ll tell you they wish they had “In Da Club” and “P.I.M.P.”” (XXL Mag)
Earlier this year, Joey Crack shunned the perception of 50 having ended his rap career.
“Well I’ve been arguing with him for how long, five, six years,” Joe said in an interview referring to 50 Cent. “I still got concerts, 60,000 people, all that sh*t. I said like this, you know, last album didn’t do as well as we wanted to, but it was really because of the promotions and he was like, ‘Yo, Joe’s dead.’ So I said, if this album, I come with the first single with Young Jeezy, the hottest n*gga in the hood, and then I come with my second single with Trey Songz, the hottest R&B n*gga in the game. D*mn, what’s gonna happen when I’m alive? I’m supposed to be dead. So you know, I don’t really pay attention to that. I got my own fans, I got people who support me, I do very well and I’m blessed. By killing my career? No one could ever kill my career because what I do is make great music. So, it is what it is.” (Future iMag)
In late 2009, 50 talked about throwing the “death blow” to Joe.
“[The public] is looking for the actual death blow to impact immediately,” Fif said in an interview with DJ Ekin. “The death blow, when I hit you with it, you gotta wait six months later. It’s dead. He’s dead. When I threw the death blow to Fat Joe, it was [2008’s] Elephant In The Sand and then six months later, new CD comes out and he sells 8,300 copies.” (My Place)
Outside of beef talk, Fif recently dropped a new track off his upcoming The Big 10 mixtape.
In honor of the fact that It’s been ten years since everyone wished Shawty a happy birthday, 50 Cent’s dropping a ten-track album next week called The Big 10. Last night he leaked a single off the album, “Stop Crying,” which features Fitty gruffly telling everyone to just stop crying (no matter how many guns there are!) over synth that sounds like the exact moment in Super Mario Brothers when you get to Bowser’s Castle. Some call it “brutal,” we call it growing up with an older brother. (Huffington Post)
