New York rappers Action Bronson and Smoke DZA also reacted to the verdict on social media.

According to reports, a Staten Island jury reached its decision Wednesday (December 3).

The decision was reached after months of testimony, including from the officer who used the chokehold, Daniel Pantaleo. The grand jury reached its decision less than two weeks after a grand jury in Ferguson, Mo., declined to bring charges against a white officer who fatally shot an unarmed black teenager, Michael Brown. Despite killing Garner, the jury did not believe officers committed a crime.

In delivering a vote of “no true bill,” jurors determined there was not probable cause that a crime was committed by NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo, who was seen on a widely watched amateur video wrapping his arm around Garner’s neck as the 43-year-old yelled, “I can’t breathe!” during the July 17 confrontation. Garner, who had been stopped by Pantaleo and several other NYPD officers, including two sergeants, on suspicion of selling loose, untaxed cigarettes, was pronounced dead at a hospital. Bad Boy Records CEO Diddy posted up a caption-less screenshot of the jury’s decision onto his Instagram page.

  1. Heads had more to say about Kendrick Lamars verse than whats going on in yall own backyard…#NYSoft

    • Please. This ain’t a regional thing. I’m sure more heads said “Free Boosie” than discussed the Jena 6 case. More people watch their favorite sports team than engage in political debates surrounding issues in their home state. It’s a problem with the general pbulic here, not a New York thing.
