With 2018 barely cracked open, new music from Lil Wayne, in-studio moments with Eminem and Dr. Dre plus JAY-Z looking primed to release fresh tunes have hip-hop heads rejoicing around the globe.

SOHH Music Correspondent Saint 2OH1 here to dig into Drake’s newly released Scary Hours EP. Just a few days since its release, this two-song body of work is worth more than just a quick listen. Peep my top five reasons you gotta keep this masterpiece on repeat mode.

1. The Resurrection of Drake The Rapper

Off a long hiatus, due to a series of pop mega hits such as “Hotline Bling”, “Controlla” and “One Dance” Drake has finally dropped some lyrical scripture to show the rap game that he’s still the Messiah. Quotable upon quotable, “God’s Plan”, has bars turn heads and might even break necks. He opens his second verse with “She say, ‘Do you love me?’ I tell her, ‘Only partly’/ I only love my bed and my momma, I’m sorry.” End of story.

2. The Team

Drake and his elite team which include, Noah “40” Shelbi and Boi-1da continue to show why they are the best at what they do. The production value on each one of these songs is top tier with oddly timed drops and countless beat changes. They keep adding new layers to they’re already perfect sound which is so distinct that only this team can accomplish it.

3. Drake the Fearless

Drake is still the fearless champion who birthed the Grammy-nominated diss track “Back to Back” and showed that he is still not scared to send shots at anyone on the second track “Diplomatic Immunity”. Drake sends shots at Joe Budden “I’ve seen budding careers turn to sit around and talk about other careers / Judging their peers / Knowledge from n***** who did not contribute to none of this here,”

4. Record Breaking

Drake’s “God’s Plan” broke the single-day streaming Spotify Record with over 4 Millions on Jan 22nd and is doing even bigger numbers on Apple Music.

5. It’s Drake

Drake makes music that only he can make. The way he ropes his words together to create the perfect metaphor without a single rhyme is an area he has perfected. His alliterations and assonances are matched by very few rappers in history which is why he is one of the best to ever do it. October Very Own, Drake

  1. Lets face it as good as the beat is it still boils down to who rides it ,Don’t forget they are a kazillion beats that get put out there that goes nowhere fast since the Artist comes and just ruins it or don’t do it any justice. Had this God plan beat be giving to a whole host of other folks it would go nowhere fast just like a movie , Imagine casting Ice cube or any other black actor who comes to mind for the movie Training Day instead of Denzel Washington.

Drake just has a unique voice and like a range rover can flow to any beat which alot of other artist can’t since they are limited.

  2. Man we see it alot of times on a variety of websites your UNSIGNED ARTIST getting on some amazing beats but they are going nowhere fast since they completely ruin the song; So it will always be about the Artist and if you give them a good beat to work with we end up with something like Gods Plan which is on repeat btw.
