[Hey what’s up SOHH community, SOHH entertainment correspondent Ryan Proctor here. Two weeks in and I hope everyone is still sticking to that New Year’s Resolution. If not, always next year. But if you’re looking for something new and refreshing, check out the new Netflix series ‘End of the F**king World.” It’s adapted from the graphic novel with the same name from back in 2013. It’s not a cop or a doctor show, so that’s what caught my interest at first, but I’m going to give you the Top 5 reasons you should definitely check this one out.]
1. It’s Not A Cop/Doctor Show

I’m growing bored with those genres on TV. Granted the content range is different on Netflix, and this one is different than the rest. It’s set in a little town in England, (yes I said England) but don’t let that deter you. If you have a darker sense of humor this is right up your alley. The premise is simple and pretty gnarly. The story is told through both main characters, James and Alyssa, perspective and inner dialogue. And trust me the inner thoughts of these two are both hilarious and dark.
2. The Art of Storytelling
James and Alyssa are pretty much opposites but, that is what draws them together. Both hate their parent(s), can’t stand the people at their school, and are looking for a way to just leave it all behind them. But, each has their own reason for wanting to be around each. James is admittedly a psychopath who has a fascination with death. In fact, he’s kept a tally of all the things he’s killed, now he’s wondering what it would be like to kill a person. Summon Alyssa the typical, I’m an outsider personality and I’ll never fit in mindset. James, lack of emotion draws Alyssa to him, and Alyssa decides to make James run away with her. Perfect for James right? Someone who wants to leave with him, and his desire to kill someone just lines up perfectly. Can he do it? Watch and find out.

I usually don’t pay attention to Rotten Tomatoes ratings much because I tend to disagree sometimes. I mean RT LOVES STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI! But after reading how some of these critics viewed this show, I decided to go against my better judgement and give this one a shot. It was spot on this time around. As long as you have a darker and drier sense of humor, this show is right in your wheelhouse.
4. Strong Acting
Is it just me, or are the British more talented in the aspect of arts and theater? This show showcases some strong performances from its two main characters. James (Alex Lawther) and Alyssa (Jessica Barden) are fantastic in this show. Their on-screen chemistry and ability to play to outcast roles together is great. Even when they are off on their own adventure(s) they showcase their individual talents superb. I haven’t been blown away by a series in a while, but they took me by surprise at how well they we able to showcase their talents. If you want to see what I’m talking about watch the series.
5. 8 Episodes, About 25 minutes Each
Let’s be honest for a second, even though we love shows like Game of Thrones and House of Cards, which each episode runs like an hour, this one you can press through pretty quickly. Each episode is about 20 to 25 minutes and that’s usually a good thing if you need to take a break and don’t have time to sit down for an hour. I usually don’t take shows that are condensed seriously because sometimes they feel rushed. This show, uses its time wisely and almost everything happening within those 20 to 25 minutes pushes the story along. So, if you’re looking for something to occupy some of your down time check out this one.
I’ll be honest, this one may not be for everyone in the sense that it is a British show. That’s cool, but I’m telling you you’re missing out on a good one if you pass up on this one. I didn’t read the graphic novel, but I am curious to find it now. If you decide to give it a chance, holler at me and let me know what you think. Also, debating on creating a rating system, would love some readers input.
