New York rapper Lil' Cease recently spoke on the tensions between mentor Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur, ultimately saying things would have simmered down if not for their fatal shootings.

According to Cease, the wrong people got into Pac’s ears and heightened the mid-1990’s rap beef.

“I think if him and B.I.G. would’ve saw each other and chopped it up after that Source Awards sh*t, the situation would’ve been different,” he explained in an interview. “We saw him on numerous occasions, and nothing happened. We had little words, but nothing happened. He knew B.I.G. I just think the wrong people got in his ear — the wrong people were feeding him sh*t. And he ran with it. At the end of the day, I think it was all love between them. I think it was just the two — n*ggas had batteries in their backs and it pushed them in the wrong direction.” (This Is 50)

In 2011, Cease teamed up with Pac’s Outlawz for a record called “Bury Tha Hatchet.”

“We had so much animosity towards each other without even knowing each other, just because we was ridin’ for Big and they were ridin’ for Pac, but like they say time heals all wounds,” Lil Cease said in an interview. “If we can settle our beef then what’s the real beef, compared to what all these other n*ggas is beefin about? … It’s like come on man, we lost both our dudes to this sh*t and we’re mature enough to handle our situation and make something positive out of it, it makes that record really special.” (All Hip Hop)

Last October, he dismissed 2Pac and Biggie murder conspiracy theories.

“I’m just way past those types of situations,” said a slightly bemused Cease. “Every year, every couple of months, something new comes out. It all depends on whoever putting it out what’s their intentions. I never even heard of this person who put this book out or heard of him as a cop during any time in that investigation.” After saying he didn’t believe Sean “Diddy” Combs ordered the shooting as Greg Kading alleges, Cease added, “I’ve been dealing with that for so many years. Every year, it’s just something different. Who knows what to believe?” (RapFix)

In honor of his 40th birthday, Cease penned an open letter to his late friend last month.

“What’s good B.I. Hope all is well with you up top, I’m writing this letter to wish you a BIG happy 40th birthday from me and the family! It’s not a day that goes by without me thinking about all good times from rocking the stages and chilling on St. James with the homies. You’re def missed down here BIG, by your family, friends and fans Your moms and kids is doing very well down here and you know I’ma hold them down to the best of my ability.” (XXL Mag)
