Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz knows the coronavirus is doing much more than make people wash their hands and increase safe hygiene. The hip-hop star has reacted to the popular South By Southwest music festival shutting down this year.
On Saturday, Deuce went to his Instagram page to react to the nixed fest. Chainz shared an announcement revealing the cancellation.
“SXSW 2020 has officially been cancelled.”
Fellow rap veteran Pete Rock also reacted to the major announcement. Rock went online with his shocked reaction to the breaking news.
Wait, There’s More
Last night, South By Southwest’s social media pages announced the heart-crushing news. The organization admitted the growing coronavirus fears and cases in the United States ultimately caused the event’s cancellation.
“An Update on SXSW 2020. Please follow the link in our bio to read our full statement.”
Before You Go
A major petition also called for the event to shut down. Heading into Friday, over 40,000 signatures urged SXSW to nix this year’s festival.
The conference said it had 73,716 attendees in 2019, 19,166 of whom were from outside the U.S. On top of that, many more work and volunteer at the event. A Change.org petition asking conference organizers to cancel the conference, calling proceeding with plans “irresponsible,” had received more than 40,000 signatures as of Wednesday morning. But before canceling, organizers had said they were working with government agencies to ensure safety of the event. (CNBC)
