“You’re Always Going To Be A Part Of ‘Tha Carter’ Sh*t”

Southern rapper David Banner has opened up about locking in time with Lil Wayne and revealed his hopes to have at least one of his twelve Tha Carter IV submitted beats make the final cut.

Discussing his relationship with Weezy, Banner pointed out what makes him different than your typical rap star.

“Most artists who are on the level of Wayne, once they get to that level they try to go and get whatever major producer. He told me, ‘David, if you’ve got what it takes, you’re going to always be a part of Tha Carter sh*t.’ I respect that because there’s a lot of people who I was a part of their careers and it just didn’t happen no more, but I’m not saying no names. With Wayne, it’s not like you got a definite spot, but you definitely can come and fight for your spot, and that’s all I ever ask for.” (Complex)

He also said Wayne specifically crafted out what type of sound he wanted Banner to create.

“I did about 12 [songs for Wayne]. One thing I respected about Wayne this time, Wayne didn’t allow me to go all over the place. Wayne told me, ‘Banner, this is exactly what I’m looking for. I know you want to be creative, I know you want to do this, but right now, for the stuff that I have already done on the album, this is the lane that I need.’ And I super-served that. [The lane was] just bangers. Nothing that you really have to think about. I’m talking straight, in your face bangers.” (Complex)

This week, Jadakiss hinted at plans to appear on Tha Carter IV alongside Drake and Young Jeezy.

“I just recorded a joint for Tha Carter IV,” says Jadakiss between tokes of his blunt. “I also got to do something for Jeezy’s TM103 today or tomorrow. Those joints are going to cover a lot of ground…As far as I know it’s a 100%. It’s supposed to be me, Weezy, Jeezy and Drake–that’s what [Young Money president] Mack [Maine] told me. I can’t remember the name of the song but it’s pain on the record…It’s definitely some deep lyrics, not just some popping bottles sh*t.” (VIBE)

Young Money president Mack Maine recently talked about Wayne’s new album being delayed from May through June 21st.

“He’s still perfecting a few things, he’s a perfectionist … changing a few lines,” Maine said in an interview. “We also have a huge record that wasn’t done yet. We’re in L.A. right now. We have a little studio time and it should be done probably by Monday…If you calculate all of [the guest appearances], by the time we would’ve finished mixing, we wouldn’t have met the [original] due date to turn in the album. So we had to push it back.” (MTV)

Tha Carter IV is currently set to hit stores Tuesday, June 21st.
