According to reports, Thug’s current label status rests with fellow Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane.

However, Billboard has learned that Young Thug is still signed to 1017 Brick Squad/Atlantic. (Atlantic, which is working the single to radio, asked Billboard to credit the song to Asylum/Atlantic on the charts.) When asked to clarify the rapper’s status, an Atlantic representative says, “We are extremely excited about Young Thug but we do not comment on artist contracts.” (Billboard)

Reports also claim discussions have been made between Gucci and Cash Money co-founder Baby.

Young Thug, meanwhile, continues to talk like an unsigned artist. “I want to sign with whoever got the most money,” he said. “I don’t give a damn — could have been you, if you was offering money. I talked to [Cash Money CEO] Birdman yesterday, and he’s talking more than anyone, so that’s probably where I’ll end up. I’d rather go there anyway — it’s a dynasty.” One source confirms that Gucci Mane and Birdman had discussed Young Thug’s contract. (Billboard)

A few days ago, Young Money president Mack Maine said Thugga was a part of the family but had not necessarily signed on any dotted lines.

Today Mack Maine spoke on the status of Cash Money and Thug for Vlad TV, saying that Thug has been adopted by the label. He goes on to expand upon this by saying that he’s been working closely with him. He makes sure not to outright confirm a signing, so we’ll have to wait just a little longer to see what transpires. Recent reports revealed Young Thugga had aligned himself with the growing YMCMB empire.

But he did perk up when I asked him if he officially signed to Cash Money. “Yo, is it official now? Are you signed to Cash Money?” Young Thug immediately turned away from about 50 flashing lights, searched for the dude who asked him what seemed to be the dumbest question in the world, and said, “Yeah. I signed.” Young Thug telling me he signed to Cash Money doesn’t make it 100%, but it’s the first time we’re hearing anything definitive on the matter from the dude himself. If I had more time with Thug maybe I could have asked the poignant questions. (Mass Appeal)
