Shanell believes Minaj considers herself more than your typical rapper.

“Nicki’s been moving and grooving,” Shanell said in an interview. “She’s on everybody’s song. So I haven’t really seen her too much. Like when I saw her at the [BET] Awards, it was like the first time I’ve seen her in a long time. I was like, ‘Girl! Hey! Congratulations!’ When we were on tour, we kicked it on the bus, parties on the bus, in the hotel lobby but I haven’t really seen too much of her. She represents herself well and what she does well. And be it rapping and I think she even considers herself more than a rapper. So I think she’s doing an excellent job and I hope she just keeps it up.” (Rap-Up TV)

In a recent interview, Minaj opened up about wanting to have her own style.

“I want to be a balanced artist so its not gimmicky. What people don’t know is that before I was doing that craziness I was doing me, I was just doing regular sounding rap that anyone could hear and identify with. But once I started doing all that weird sh*t–I’m not mad at it because it got everyone’s attention, but I can sometimes forget that I come from a real authentic place in hip-hop. Im not someone who got signed to a record label who said ‘hey maybe you should do weird voices.’ No. this is all years of me learning me and my style, and decide to do something different that would get everyone’s attention. But I always knew I wanted to come back to my original sound, and the album is going to be a plethora of different sounds. Sometimes people close to me they have their preferences, their favorite Nicki thing, and I have to stand up sometimes and block out the noise.” (VIBE)

In addition to VIBE and FADER magazine covers, Minaj’s music has made Billboard history.

‘Your Love’ is the first single by a female rap artist to top the Rap Songs chart in seven years, with Lil’ Kim‘s ‘Magic Stick’ featuring 50 Cent serving as the last track to hold the same position back in June 2003 for five consecutive weeks. And while Kim had some male assistance, Missy Elliott is the last female artist to have a solo track top the chart with ‘Work It’ in November ’02. (The Boom Box)

The rapper’s untitled debut album is set to hit stores this fall.

Barbie fans across the world can rejoice. Nicki Minaj’s as-yet-untitled debut album will officially hit stores on November 23. The news comes just four days after the Jamaica, Queens rapper took to her twitter account to alert fans about the special day. “Yes. It’s time. November 23rd,” she wrote last Thursday afternoon. At the time, XXLMag.com spoke to reps for her label at Young Money/Cash Money, and they couldn’t confirm the date. But today, they informed us that the date is indeed set in stone. (XXL Mag)
