Atlanta rapper Young Jeezy is letlting everyone know he has a space in his heart for slain teenager Trayvon Martin by releasing the new tribute track, "It's A Cold World."
Young Jeezy’s new track surfaced online hours before Martin’s shooter George Zimmerman received a not guilty verdict.
Young Jeezy reacts to George Zimmerman being found not guilty in the killing of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin by releasing the song “It’s a Cold World.” In the track Jeezy posted on his Twitter and Facebook pages Saturday, the Atlanta rapper discusses the untimely deaths of his friends over a somber, electronic hip-hop ballad. He raps, “I’m like losing homies everyday, I’m like kill somebody else. If nothing else, I’mma do it for Trayvon. That’s on a stack of bibles at least two or three Korans.” Jeezy said he is not trying to take advantage of Martin’s death. “I am in no way shape, form, or fashion am trying to capitalize off of the latest series of events,” he said in a statement. “These are my true feelings and my form of expression about it.” (Yahoo News)
Last night (July 13), Grammy-winning singer Beyoncé Knowles-Carter honored Martin’s memory.
Beyonce took a moment to honor Martin during her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour concert at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. Her concert started about 30 minutes after the Zimmerman verdict began to circulate. “I’d like to have a moment of silence for Trayvon,” the pop star said as the stage grew dark with just a few key lights shining. Beyonce then sang the chorus of “I Will Always Love You,” a song, fittingly given the location, written by country music star Dolly Parton and brought to a global audience by the late Whitney Houston, before transitioning into her hit “Halo.” (Washington Post)
A few days ago, Atlanta rapper Lil Scrappy dropped his “Trayvon Martin” tribute.
As closing arguments were underway in the George Zimmerman trial, Lil Scrappy released a song titled “Trayvon Martin.” Zimmerman is accused of second degree murder trial in the death of the Florida teenager. The case is expected to go to the jury on Friday. In the song, the Love & Hip Hop star sings about getting “legal justice” or “street justice” for the Black civil rights. In a statement to RumorFix, Scrappy explains, “I did this song because it doesn’t seem like anyone is stepping up to stand up against this racism. I have had a lot of time lately to read and think. If no one stands up we all are gonna fall.” Lil Scrappy recently completed a 30 day in-patient drug rehabilitation program and now visits with young people in schools to encourage them to say no to drugs. Zimmerman had his fate read to him last night after days of emotional testimonies.
In a case that touched off a national debate on race and guns, George Zimmerman was acquitted of all charges in the shooting of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager killed during a confrontation on a rainy night in Florida last year. “There’s to be no outbursts upon the reading of the verdict or afterwards,” Judge Debra S. Nelson warned the packed courtroom in Seminole County awaiting the verdict from the jury of six women who began deliberating on Friday and worked a 13-hour day Saturday. (Los Angeles Times)
