Young Jeezy Joins Kanye West & Lil’ Wayne’s Management Team

Grammy-nominated rapper Young Jeezy has reportedly joined forces with the same management team responsible for handling rap stars Kanye West and Lil’ Wayne.

The power move was officially announced Monday (March 2) afternoon.

Atlanta rapper Young Jeezy is signing up with Hip-Hop Since 1978, the heavy-hitting management firm that handles both Kanye West and Lil’ Wayne. His longtime manager Demetrius “Kinky B” Ellerbee will continue to work with the new team. This is a big piece of news, a signal that Jeezy has entered the realm of rap royalty. Jeezy’s manager has reacted towards the shift in management.

“With Young Jeezy we’ve watched a legitimate movement build into an incredible brand over the past several years,” Kinky B said in a statement. “In partnering with Gee [Roberson] and Hip-Hop we are hoping to continue to push his brand further than ever. I’m thrilled to have them on board.” (XXL Mag)

Roberson released a statement both confirming and welcoming their latest rap act.

“Young Jeezy, along with our artists Kanye West and Lil Wayne, is at the pinnacle of this culture right now,” Gee said in a statement. “So it’s just great synergy to be able to work with him and Kink during this exciting time in his career.” (Hip Hop DX)

The rapper has seen relative amounts of success in hip-hop since releasing his Def Jam debut in 2005.

As a member of Boyz N da Hood, Jeezy was behind a self-titled album (released just weeks before Let’s Get It) that debuted in the Top Ten of the Billboard album chart. Driven by the hit “Soul Survivor,” Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101 eventually did even better, nestling at the number two spot in the Top 200. The Inspiration: Thug Motivation 102 followed in late 2006, and by that point, Jeezy had become one of the most prominent MCs. In 2007 he introduced his U.S.D.A. crew with the album Cold Summer, and then returned to his solo career a year later with the politically minded The Recession. (All Music)
