After news spread about Young Jeezy joining the same management team responsible for Kanye West and Lil’ Wayne, the rapper has now discussed his motivation behind the power move.
Jeezy claims his decision to join Kanye’s management team came down to a matter of trust.
“It got to the point where I wanted to focus just on my music and I wanted to trust somebody else to put it in they hands,” Jeezy said in an interview. “So I just took my Louis Vuitton backpack off and put it on them for a minute. I been doing a lot for myself, but sometimes you just gotta expand your game and the way you do that is get linked with people. That’s what they do for a living, all day everyday.” (Rap Radar)
The annoucement was officially made earlier this month.
Atlanta rapper Young Jeezy is signing up with Hip-Hop Since 1978, the heavy-hitting management firm that handles both Kanye West and Lil’ Wayne. His longtime manager Demetrius “Kinky B” Ellerbee will continue to work with the new team. This is a big piece of news, a signal that Jeezy has entered the realm of rap royalty. Jeezy’s manager also confirmed the move and shared his reaction to the managament shift.
“With Young Jeezy we’ve watched a legitimate movement build into an incredible brand over the past several years,” Kinky B said in a statement. “In partnering with Gee [Roberson] and Hip-Hop we are hoping to continue to push his brand further than ever. Joining Roberson and Hip-Hop, the duo released a statement welcoming in their latest rap act.
