Fugees frontman Wyclef Jean is airing out his dirty laundry this week in a new autobiography titled Purpose: An Immigrant's Story which undresses his true romantic relationship with estranged group member Lauryn Hill.
Based on an excerpt, Jean claims Hill manipulated him into believing he impregnated her at the start of their careers.
It’s no secret that ex-Fugees members Wyclef Jean and Lauryn Hill had a bad falling out, but Wyclef’s new claims may make you see the situation in a completely different light. In his new autobiography, Purpose: An Immigrant’s Story–which hits stores tomorrow–Clef says the initial crack that broke up The Fugees began when Lauryn made him believe that her first born son was his, when it was actually Rohan Marley‘s (son of Bob Marley). Wyclef writes, “In that moment something died between us. I was married and Lauryn and I were having an affair, but she led me to believe that the baby was mine, and I couldn’t forgive that.” He continues by adding, “She could not longer be my muse. Our love spell was broken.” (VIBE)
Last July, Wyclef stressed his distanced relationship with Hill when asked for a reaction to her recent publicized tax problems.
“Actually, you know, I ain’t speak to Lauryn. It’s been a minute. I heard about the little drama she got in the news, wishing her better on that. You know? Actually, I was on the phone with Pras earlier. It’s all good. Nothing but love for the Fugees.” (Montreality)
The female singer’s ex-husband Rohan Marley recently hinted at Hill giving them reason to split.
Rohan Marley says that his relationship with his ex-partner Lauryn Hill is “good” when it comes to the welfare of their children. The businessman and son of reggae star Bob Marley, admits that things aren’t perfect between him and the Doo Wop (That Thing) hitmaker, with whom he has five children. But he says that since their split last year, after more than a decade together, they both remain good parents to their children. “[Our relationship] is good as in… in terms of being a mother and father to our children, it’s good,” says Marley, who is now engaged to Brazilain supermodel Isabeli Fontana. “It’s not as perfect as one might want it to be. It’s just the way the road went.” Speaking of their highly publicised break-up, the 40-year-old co-founder of gourmet coffee company Marley Coffee, added: “As a man, there are certain things I don’t accept, and it just so happened that I didn’t accept certain things [in the relationship]. “It doesn’t mean she’s [Hill] a bad person or I’m a bad person. It just didn’t work out.” (Voice-Online)
Last summer, Lauryn issued a statement addressing her intricate relationship with Rohan.
“Mr. Marley and I have a long and complex history about which MANY inaccuracies have been reported since the beginning,” the statement reads. “To speculate without the facts can only cause people to form WRONG conclusions. We both value privacy and for that reason defend and preserve our right to it. Contrary to the numerous reports, Mr. Marley did not abandon me while pregnant with his child. We have had long periods of separation over the years but our 5 children together remain a joy to both of us. Thank you for your concern and I appreciate all of the well wishes regarding the birth of my new son.” (Statement)
