Grammy-winning rapper/producer Wyclef Jean has finally come forward to address the ridicule he has received after a half-naked photo of himself caught a big buzz last week.
According to Clef, the image stems from a past photo shoot and has been out for longer than most people think.
“I was listening to you and I saw I got ‘Donkey of the Day,’ I saw I earned ‘Donkey of the Day’ for the speedo so you know,” Clef said in an interview. “First of all, all right, the pic with the speedo, just so you clear on that, that’s an old pic. I’m part of a bike club, right — the Wyclef bike club wore speedos at the time. That’s actually an old photo shoot and those photos are actually up on Facebook and Instagram. This comes from an old photo shoot — if you look at my Instagram, you would have been seen that picture. You’re not following me on Instagram. If you look at my Facebook, this is an actual photo shoot for a company in Italy. So I said that I turned 43, I feel 26 based on that photo shoot I had did.” (“The Breakfast Club”)
Former Little Brother member Phonte wasted no time poking fun at the image last week.
“The only thing that could make Wyclef’s pic more tragic is if Lauryn took it and Pras greased him up for it.,” he tweeted Wednesday (October 17). (Phonte’s Twitter)
Radio personality Charlamagne Tha God also went directly at Clef’s neck over the photo.
“Haiti has been thru way too much. They deserve better than this. @wyclef pic.twitter.com/UT75v0VT”
“That Hip Hop Mid Life Crisis is so real…..” (Charlamagne Tha God’s Twitter)
Buzz started picking up surrounding the unexpected image early last week.
Wyclef Jean posted a disturbing, Speedo-clad picture of himself on Twitter for his 43rd birthday. The singer is half-naked, in a red and blue Speedo, sitting on an Italian motorcycle in front of his presumed home. Though it looks like it was raining before the picture was taken, it also appears as if the New Jerseyan, who tried to run for president of Haiti, lathered his body with baby oil for the picture. There’s no denying that Wyclef Jean looks good for his age, but it’s a little strange that he would celebrate his birthday with Twitter in this way. (International Business Times)
