Pittsburgh rapper Wiz Khalifa recently spoke on his upcoming O.N.I.F.C. (Only N*gga In First Class) solo album and why fans should not immediately classify the new effort as a stoners-only release.
Despite his love for greenery, Wiz promised his Rolling Papers follow-up is deeper than marijuana talk.
“The stigma that I get — even with this album, the vibe of it and how mellow it is — you automatically say, ‘Oh, it’s a stoner album,’ just because I smoke,” the Pittsburgh rapper told MTV News on Tuesday (December 4) promoting the just-released LP at SiriusXM Radio. “Instead of saying it’s a mood album or something that you really have to listen to or pay attention to, people automatically say it’s a stoner album.” (MTV)
Last year, Khalifa struck critics who called him out due to lyrics perceived as strictly centered around marijuana use.
“People can have their opinion, and I have been labeled as something,” he says. “But it’s not a problem. My message is way beyond smoking weed. That’s just what I do. I’m about people embracing who they are, whatever they do and whoever they are. Fully embrace that.” (Seattle Times)
He also recently delved into his love and admiration for the controversial drug.
“It makes me feel like I can get everything done in the right order — If I think I’m doing better, then it’s working on my brain. It actually makes other people think I’m doing good too,” Khalifa said referring to marijuana. “[The arrests?] You pay the cost to be the boss. It should be legal everywhere, but me as one individual, I’m not going to make them think it should be legal. As many times as they’re gonna slap the cuffs on me, they’re gonna do it, but at the end of the day, they know what they can and can’t do.” (“Larry King Now”)
Back in April, Wiz revealed his fiancée Amber Rose‘s stance on his smoking.
“[Weed smoking?] She’s like, ‘Get it away.’ She doesn’t hate it, but she will not do it. She’ll roll it, she loves how it smells. She just doesn’t want to get high ’cause she don’t want to feel that.” (Hot 97)
