Pittsburgh rapper Wiz Khalifa recently spoke on the motivation behind his "Rise Above" O.N.I.F.C. track and why a majority of haters tend to stem from his own hometown.

Wiz said observing jealously inspired him to ink the “Rise Above” anthem for his latest solo offering.

“The same people that you look up to can turn around and end up being jealous of you and wanna bring you down,” Wiz told MTV News while promoting his new album. “When that happened, that was really one of the things that motivated me to write that song and put that message out there, because it kinda touched me in a weird way.” (MTV)

He also emphasized how much anxiety and issues come from his own backyard.

Wiz doesn’t pay the anonymous haters much mind. Though he gets an overwhelming amount of love in his native Pittsburgh, there are a few rotten apples in his hometown bunch. “The majority of the hate that could affect me the most would come from my circle of people who I respect the most and that’s in my city,” he explained. “They went out of their way to try to discredit me or say bad things about me in front of people, and that really shocked me, because I always played my role.” (MTV)

The new track surfaced online with a guest spot from fiancée Amber Rose late last month.

Wiz Khalifa flies past his haters on “Rise Above,” the Pharrell-produced cut off his upcoming album O.N.I.F.C., due Tuesday. The Taylor Gang leader reflects on how his success has brought out the worst in people, while The Neptunes hitmaker and Wiz’ fellow Taylor Tuki Carter add verses. Even his fiancé Amber Rose gets in on the action, dropping some rhymes. “Man, what the f**k is wrong with these ni**as?” asks Amber. (Rap-Up)

Earlier this year, Wiz hopped on his Twitter page and addressed his local critics.

“Im Always Working & For The Record I See Wuss Goin On At Home. I Would Never Forget About My City. I Love Ya’ll Crazy Mu F*ckas. Im From There,” he tweeted January 19th.

“Im Ratchet As H*ll Juss Like Ya’ll. I Juss Want Y’all To Know The World Is Bigger Than Pittsburgh Bein Alive Past 21 Is Cool”

“I Got No Problems Wit N*ggas Reppin The Hood Because Thats A MAJOR Part Of Our City But I Don’t Feel Wrong For Showin People The Other Side”

“Especially Kids Who’s Minds Aren’t Already As Fucked Up And Jaded As Ours” (Wiz Khalifa’s Twitter)
