According to Wiz, he did not initially envision his NFL Pittsburgh Steelers team anthem to make national airwaves.

“I’m definitely excited about ‘Black and Yellow’ reaching [no.] 14 on the charts,” Wiz said in an interview. “Just even that is just great. When I put it out, I was thinking it’s gonna be more of like a set-up record, but now that it’s going up, hopefully it reaches its full potential. Wherever that is, or wherever that lands it, we’ll see it there…The response to ‘Black and Yellow’ made me wanna work with [production duo] Stargate more, or just experience more with getting in the studio with different producers and trying to come up with something from scratch how we did.” (BET)

Following the song’s success, Wiz recently reflected on what the anthem means to his hometown.

“You don’t necessarily need an anthem, but it’s good for us, for Pittsburgh, just to keep that pride going,” Khalifa said. “Me being new to music and the Steelers being the stamp that everyone knows about in Pittsburgh, it’s just promoting the same things: music, sports and pride.” (ESPN)

Along with a strong Billboard Top 100 placement, Wiz’s record has also struck gold.

Wiz Khalifa’s 2010 was highlighted by the large reception for his single “Black and Yellow.” Not only by fans but other artists as well, making it the most remixed song this year. Artists such as Snoop, Maino, Fabolous, Rick Ross, Donnis, T-Pain, Wale, Crooked I to name a few. But Wiz’s original track reigned supreme among fans launching the track to top 40 status. Today (December 10) Wiz Khalifa tweeted some news for his fans aka the ‘Taylor Gang’ that his single had reached Certified Gold. (The Source)

An official “Black & Yellow” remix is reportedly in the works.

The young rapper recently revealed to Hot 97’s Angie Martinez that the official remix, or G-Mix as he calls it, will feature guest appearances from Snoop Dogg, Jeezy, Three 6 Mafia’s Juicy J, and T-Pain. Wiz told Angie that it will also include a “crazy” new verse from him on the track … and hinted that another artist may join the star-studded remix as well. (BallerStatus)
