[After successfully releasing his “Brutus” studio debut on Talib Kweli’s Javotti Media this year, Florida native Niko Is talks to SOHH about piecing together the project’s follow-up.]

I don’t think there’s anything to prove to anybody except myself. Really. I don’t really make music for other people or to get a reception. I make music because this is my life and this is how I feel.

I feel like with this new record, we’re going to just keep doing what we’re doing. I’m really excited about learning more and traveling more and going around the world and really just finding new sounds and new grooves to play with.

The next album is going to be super dope. We’re going to Brazil next month and we’re going to finish up the album there.

I’m always creating. Thankfully it’s 2015 and we can just take the studio with us wherever we go. We usually always have a recording setup, professional recording setup, wherever we go.

That makes it easier so you don’t always have to put yourself in that work mode like, ‘We’re going to the studio, we’re going to make music.’ We can just live life and make music and go out, jump in the ocean, think of something cool, go upstairs and record it.

It’s a blessing to be able to have that opportunity to always create and always be able to get a point across and to be able to go to tropical places and different vibes. It definitely inspires a lot that we do.
