With Kanye West’s Help, Q-Tip Announces A Tribe Called Quest’s Final Performance

With hip-hop fans still adjusting to the news Kanye West and A Tribe Called Quest are going to share the same stage for an upcoming tour, group member Q-Tip has announced the crew’s final performance. Ever.

If all goes accordingly, fans will witness history one last time as A Tribe Called Quest bows out gracefully in their hometown.

“In August, ATCQ did our last show FOR Cali. It’s only right we do our FINAL 2 joints where we started…NYC,” Tip revealed October 15. (Q-Tip’s Twitter)

The final show will go down in late November barring any last-minute venue changes.

Fear not Tristate area! Kanye West has officially announced that Kendrick Lamar is indeed joining him on all the New York dates of his upcoming Yeezus tour. Adding to that, HOT97 unveiled that A Tribe Called Quest will also be performing on NY tour stops. The action kicks off on Oct. 19 in Seattle and ends in early Dec. in Houston. Good luck finding tickets! (Miss Info TV)

Throughout the years, Tribe has experienced multiple break-ups and reunions.

A Tribe Called Quest announced their breakup in 1998, but reunited six years later for Rock the Bells. Since then they’ve toured occasionally, but haven’t released any new music since 1998’s The Love Movement. In 2011, Michael Rappaport directed the documentary, Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest, which documented the drama behind the band. (News Radio)

Back in early 2011, A Tribe Called Quest’s documentary maker Michael Rapaport discussed Q-Tip taking issues with the project.

“I think the reason he did his little Twitter thing was because he realized that the movie was coming to completion and going to get seen by people,” Rapaport explained in an interview. “I can’t really speak for him but I think he got a little nervous. He’s very protective of the legacy of A Tribe Called Quest and the movie is a very honest depiction of my time with them and the information that I was given in interviews and content…He was speaking on behalf of himself and his biggest request was to be protective of the legacy of Tribe. So when the film was coming to completion, he got a little bit nervous because he wants to be seen in a certain way.” (RapFix)
