With Kim Kardashian and Kanye West expected to bring a biracial baby into the world this summer, ex-Ruff Ryders rapper Eve has discussed the mixed topic especially considering her current love interest is white.
Eve said the black/white topic never played a big role in her life growing up and stressed it would be vital for her kid to see beyond race.
“I don’t want them to see color. I never did. I grew up in the hood and my mother was very good at it not being a black thing, even though I grew up around all black people. I want them to want to know everything about all kinds of races. I’m a black woman and I love being a black woman. And I think my child should know that black part of themselves. But at the same time, their father would be white and I would want them to know that side of themselves. And British! That’s a whole other situation [Laughs].” (VIBE Vixen)
Back in March, Kim K talked about raising a biracial child with Kanye.
“I have a lot of friends who are of all different nationalities and their children are bi-racial so they’ve talked to me a little bit about it and what to expect. The most important thing is, the way I want to raise my children is to not see color. There are experiences that you won’t really know how to prepare for until you really go through it but raising a child in general is challenging. As long as you are open-minded and don’t have any pre-concieved ideas of how you are going to raise your children, it really keeps this broad spectrum. Obviously, you want your child to travel the world and experience different races and different cultures everywhere. So that’s really important to me.” (BET)
In November, E-v-e acknowledged the awkwardness of dating businessman Maximillion Cooper due to their racial backgrounds.
“I need them to stop [caring about interracial dating]. What year is it? Like, stop. Seriously. Trust me, I gotta say, it is weird for me that I’m with a white dude. Trust me. I look at him sometimes and I’m like, ‘You are so white.’ Seriously! Yes, I gotta be real like that. I’m the first black girl he’s ever been with, so we are learning. Trust me, he’s been through ‘Weave 101.’ I’ve been out on a date but not like this, not like my dude. I had to tell my mom and my step-dad who still thinks he follows Farrakhan. It’s crazy. We learn a lot about each other but people came at me like, ‘I can’t believe you’re dating a white dude and you don’t like black dudes no more.’ I’m like, ‘I love black men, it just so happens that my heart went this way right now.’ Who knows? A couple year ago, the rapper admitted she wanted to eventually have kids.
