Academy Award-nominated actor Will Smith will resurrect his role as scientist Robert Neville, as he has agreed to star in the upcoming I Am Legend prequel.
According to Variety, Warner Bros. the flick starts off as news about a plague-ridden virus begins to spread. Giving audience members a grasp on I Am Legend‘s background, the follow-up movie is expected to answer all of the unclear questions brought up in the 2007 box office hit – which reportedly made over $536 million worldwide.
Along with Smith, I Am Legend director Francis Lawrence has also signed on for the prequel. While a script is currently in the works, no release date has been announced as of yet.
As previously reported by SOHH, Smith has been keeping himself busy as of lately with a heavy line-up of films including Seven Pounds and The Last Pharaoh.
In the upcoming Gabriele Muccino (The Pursuit Of Happyness) directed movie Seven Pounds, the former “Fresh Prince” star takes on the role of a depressed IRS agent who goes on a mission to help out seven strangers. The flick is expected to hit theaters this winter.
Smith will also play an ancient Egyptian king, Taharqa, in the upcoming film The Last Pharaoh. The film will primarily center on his historic battles between Assyrian leader Esarhaddon.
As of now, no release date has been announced for The Last Pharaoh.
